A Tough Start

For Sharon Dorcas Atieno, finding a fulfilling career seemed out of reach. After completing secondary school in 2015, she spent years helping her sister with community work and selling second-hand clothes. With no formal employment experience and employers demanding university certificates, securing a stable job became very difficult for her.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

 “Immediately I walked into the Retail and Restaurant class, I knew for a fact this was what I wanted to do because I love serving people,” she shares. Sharon enrolled in the Retail and Restaurant program, and the experience exceeded her expectations. “Every topic was well tackled, followed by practical examples, preparing us for what’s ahead,” she says.

Overcoming Employment Barriers

Now Sharon works as a sales assistant at SandStorm Kenya Ltd. “My role is to offer exceptional Customer service,  help each SandStorm store meet their monthly set target, manage stocks, and just general shop operations,” She highlights. 

“The impact is positive; I can assist my family financially and meet their day-to-day needs. Professionally, I have received a pay rise and bonus for my excellent customer service and customer retention to the company.” She notes in a relieved tone. 

“Generation is amazing cause they give us opportunities, Educate us, and still help us get employed. Like who does that if not Generation?” She concludes.
