As we marked World Youth Skills Day this year under the theme “Skills for a Shared Future,” our Interim CEO was hosted on TV47 to discuss Kenya’s progress in skills development, the challenges that remain, and opportunities for the future.

Generation Kenya measures impact across three critical dimensions. In terms of breadth, we have graduated over 38,800 youth. We have developed 8 professions across 3 sectors in collaboration with over 450 employer partners, delivering programs across 27 counties through partnerships with more than 12 development partners, 55 TVETs, community-based organizations, and NGOs.

The depth of our impact is demonstrated through exceptional employment outcomes. 80% percent of graduates secure dignified employment within 3 months, rising to 90% within 6 months post-program graduation. This is a significant impact given that 90%+ of participants are jobless at program entry, with 61% having never worked or faced long-term unemployment. Following placement, graduate income increases 3-4 times compared to pre-program levels, with 61% of participants being women.

These outcomes are durable over time. Our 2025 Alumni Survey reveals sustained outcomes 2- 5 years post-training, with 70% remaining employed. Three-quarters work in fields related to their Generation Kenya training, while 64% can meet daily financial needs 2-5 years after graduation. High satisfaction levels persist, with 85% reporting working in high-quality jobs, 88% expressing optimism about their future, and 89% reporting overall life satisfaction. Independent evaluations by Mathematica confirm these results, showing that 60% found paid work within 90 days, 83% retained jobs for at least three months, and 75% work in training-related areas.
