Mobilizer

Generation is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing global demand-driven youth employment programs, providing young adults with the opportunity to launch successful careers and change their life trajectories. We recruit, train, and place diverse adults of all ages — whether unemployed or underemployed — into careers that would otherwise be beyond their reach.

We started with a focus on youth, who are keen to launch their careers from non-traditional pathways (e.g. youth with no higher educational qualifications and require support to mitigate challenges due to socioeconomic backgrounds, individuals seeking to enter professions where their profile is traditionally underrepresented), and have now expanded to mid-career workers seeking jobs in demand (e.g. workers who have been displaced potentially due to automation or economic downturn, rejoining caretakers who have been out of the workforce for a significant amount of time).

Our goal is to deliver for job seekers and employers simultaneously: supporting the individual’s personal and financial well-being, while helping businesses acquire entry-level hires who have higher productivity, are of higher quality, are retained longer, and are faster to promotion than peers.

To date, Generation is active in 17 countries: the USA, Kenya, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, India, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, the UK, France, Italy, Ireland, Thailand, Chile, Colombia, and Ghana, with plans of expanding to a few more countries.

Since launching in May 2015, Generation Kenya has trained over 38,200+ candidates across 6 different industries. 85% of whom have been placed in meaningful employment with our over 350+ employer partners. We currently train for entry-level roles in three sectors: Customer Service and Sales, Skilled Trades, and digital jobs.

Driven by our vision, “a meaningful career and sustained well-being for every person anywhere in the world,” and mission, “we transform education to employment systems to prepare, place and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible,” we aim to address the skills gap that hinders growth in the formal sector.

The Community Mobilizer plays a key role in driving grassroots engagement and recruitment for Generation Kenya programs. This role involves direct outreach, community relationship-building, and guiding youth through the application process. Successful mobilizers will be highly networked, persuasive, and passionate about connecting young people to life-changing opportunities.

Community Engagement and Relationship Building

• Establish and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, including:
  • TVET institutions, colleges, and youth polytechnics.
  • Religious institutions, including churches and mosques.
  • Youth groups, CBOs, NGOs, SACCOs, recruitment agencies, and county-based initiatives.
  • Alumni ambassadors, community champions, and local leaders.
• Represent Generation Kenya at community events, forums, and partner engagements.
• Identify new recruitment channels and partnerships to expand outreach

Youth Outreach and Recruitment

• Actively mobilize and recruit youths within target regions for the upcoming training cohort
• Deliver compelling, accurate information about all Generation Kenya programs.
• Utilize both in-person and digital mobilization strategies to reach diverse youth audiences and improve learner outcomes.

Mobilization Strategies and Platforms

• Leverage a combination of strategies to reach young people, such as:
• University/College visits, door-to-door campaigns, and market activations
• Community forums, social media, WhatsApp broadcasts, and referral programs
• Partnership with recruitment agencies to reach screened and job-seeking youth
• Joint outreach initiatives with employment-focused organizations and youth-friendly NGOs.
• Coordinate closely with the Communications and Operations teams to align messaging and optimize mobilization materials.

Collaboration with Local Recruitment Agencies

• Liaise with local recruitment agencies, youth employment hubs, and job placement organizations to identify pre-qualified or interested youth.
• Support joint recruitment drives with agencies that serve young job seekers and recent graduates.
• Maintain professionalism and uphold Generation’s commitment to transparent, non-discriminatory recruitment when engaging with external partners.

Reporting, Data and Insights

• Maintain detailed records of mobilization activity, platforms used, and conversion metrics.
• Provide weekly reports and community insights to help inform Generation Kenya recruitment strategies.
• Escalate urgent issues or feedback that may affect turnout or program reputation.

• Diploma or Certificate in Community Development, Social Work, Marketing, Education, or a related field.
• At least one year of experience in youth engagement, outreach, or community mobilization.
• Experience using mobilization platforms such as colleges, religious institutions, youth groups, NGOs, and referral networks.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
• Basic digital literacy, including use of smartphones, WhatsApp, Google Forms, and email.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
• Ability to work independently and travel frequently within assigned regions.
• A valid motorcycle license will be an added advantage.

• Strong community networks and partnership development skills within youth and education ecosystems.
• Experience in youth mobilization, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong communication, relationship management, and persuasion skills.
• Experience recruiting for BPO, tech, digital, or vocational training programs.
• Passionate about youth empowerment and connecting young people to employment opportunities.
