About Us

Generation Programme Kenya (Generation Kenya) is a nonprofit that delivers sector-leading employment and income results through skilling and placement. The organization supports youth who face the highest systemic barriers to employment to achieve economic mobility and a better life; training and placing them into careers that would otherwise be inaccessible. Launched in 2015, Generation Kenya is part of a global network of 18 affiliates to Generation: Youth Employed Inc.

Our mission

We transform education to employment systems to prepare, place, and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Our vision

A meaningful career and sustained well-being for every person, anywhere in the world.

Our Values

We live and work by an important set of values

Go further, together

We are better together. We collaborate with and help others, both inside and outside of Generation.

Solve problems that matter

We work on activities that advance our mission, and rigorously measure impact to allocate time and resources.

Better our best

As long as we use data, experience, and dialogue to grow and improve, we are moving in the right direction.

Empower and support

We support each other personally and professionally, allowing our unique talents and capabilities to flourish.

Our Future

An Inflection Point

To reach the next horizon of impact, we will need to both go beyond the formal sector and go deep on systems change.

Grow Digital Freelancing

Formal, traditional job opportunities are limited in number and limited to the cities. To expand the scale of opportunities and grow into rural and refugee/migrant populations, we are expanding into digital freelancing roles. Following a pilot of 600 graduates over the past year, we will continue to experiment to achieve scalable digital freelance programs with robust, measurable outcomes.

Target: Support 6,500 youth over 3 years to achieve a living wage through digital freelancing & remote work.

Develop Key Sector Ecosystems

Government and employer systems do not currently align towards sustained, effective workforce development. To improve worker productivity and wellbeing, unlock sector growth, and attract public and private sector investments, we are engaging key ecosystem actors to create sectoral Centres of Excellence. Focusing on the apparel manufacturing and business process outsourcing sectors, we will build on our deep program experience and breadth of employer and County relationships to achieve sustainable, scalable placement programs.

Target: Support 23,500 youth into lasting jobs and achieve 50% of program costs covered by government and employer contributions for key programs by 2026.
